How long does siding last?

In general a good install should last over 20 years. But it depends on what type of siding you get, how well it was installed and how it’s maintained. For example, wood siding or cedar siding requires treatment or painting depending on what you have, which could help it last well past 20 years. Vinyl and aluminum could last even longer.

What's the best type of siding?

It depends on your goal. Vinyl is more cost effective. Hardie board looks great and lasts a long time but isn’t cheap. Cedar and wood can also look amazing but requires more maintenance. With each type of siding there are some specific product lines that perform better than others as well.

How much does it cost?

It all depends on the type of siding and the difficulty of the project. You might be looking at anywhere from $5 a square foot to $15 a square foot.
